A New Way of Working

It's a new experience for me to provide health services from my house. For the last 7 years, I've been going door to door and visiting people's homes to care for their health needs. But now, while I am still recovering from the Cesarean delivery and taking care of my newborn son, people are willing to come here to my home to see me. Sometimes, when several of them are gathered in front of my house, it looks like a doctor's waiting room!

Big News – I Have a Baby Boy!

When I started working as a community health volunteer in 2006, I already had a daughter named Anika who was about a year old. Now I am very happy to report I am also the mother of a son! I was blessed with a son on January 6, 2012. His name is Taha and he was born weighing 2.7 kilograms (about 6 pounds). Thank goodness, it was a safe delivery. Many of the mothers from the community have congratulated me.

Mainess Missed Her Postnatal Check-Up

Mainess is the treasurer of the community core group of Jonasi Village, which ensures that all pregnant women deliver their babies at a health facility. She is a very dedicated member. She recently gave birth to her third child, who she named Smart. She did not have any problems during the delivery and the baby weighed 3.2 kilograms [7 pounds] at birth.

Winning People’s Hearts

My first year in this village was hard, but I didn’t give up. I loved being a midwife even though it was very challenging for me to get started here. I decided I would visit all the pregnant women and speak with them heart to heart. I also started visiting people if I knew they had a fever, cold or cough. I helped them by checking their symptoms and giving them medication if they needed it. I didn’t charge for my services. I spent my own savings for almost a year without any income because I believed that one day I would win the people’s hearts.
