Big Changes in My Life
I’m sad to say I had to move away from Jonasi village for a while. I need to continue my education, so I am now living in Kongwe where I can attend evening classes and study for my Malawi School Certificate of Education. This is equivalent to an American high school diploma or British O-levels. I feel I need this qualification because as a health worker I need to be well educated.
It was sad to leave the village and the people I cared for there. I worked hard to build trust with the mothers in Jonasi, and most of them felt comfortable sharing their health issues with me. But in life we have to move on and adapt to the changes around us.
I will continue providing health services around Kongwe area, in the same district of Dowa. I have not yet been assigned a specific area. Currently I am helping at the district hospital, and from the look of things I will be here for at least two weeks. Another reason for my move was that my services are needed here around the Kongwe area because there has been little health progress over the years.
My husband Chisomo is still in Jonasi village and he will be coming to see me and our baby Patience when he can. He is a health worker too, so he will be serving the people of Jonasi while I am away.
