Today is Sunday and I went to the home of José, the boy who was sick with pneumonia on Friday. I checked his breathing and I was very happy to see the rate had returned to normal. “So this so this means he is getting better,” I told José’s mother. “But this doesn’t mean that you should stop giving him his medicine, the Amoxicillin. And you still have to give him the Acetaminophen too. This will be the last day you give it to him.”

I warned María to keep a close eye on José and watch for the danger signs I told her about on Friday, because this type of illness can come back again, so she needs to be careful and observant. I explained the danger signs to her again, and reminded her to feed him well, and check him regularly.

I explained that diarrhea can be also dangerous for children, and also the dysentery. “It’s important to observe what is going on with your child and to be able to identify what kind of illness he may have,” I said. “And if something seems wrong and you’re not sure about it, you should bring him to see me so I can check him and recommend the right treatment or medicine to heal him.”
