Preventing a Hospital Visit

felix-blog.jpgAs usual, I began my week making house visits – today I had three. Two were common flu cases. With a little bit of medicine and rest, the children were fine. The other one, however, I was really concerned about – she had pneumonia. Upon my first visit, I could tell the little girl was not doing well, and the mother looked frightened and unsure of what to do. I knew that if the mother didn’t learn quickly how to care for her sick child, then I would have to refer the girl to the hospital. Things could get complicated. Luckily, once I showed the mother what to do and how to properly administer the antibiotics, she learned fast. By the end of the week the little girl was much better and there was no need for a hospital visit. That makes it a good week.
