Preventing Pneumonia and Malnutrition
This week, one mother came to my house early in the morning with her baby. The baby was coughing. I checked his breaths with a timer and found nothing to worry about. It was a normal cold. But I liked the awareness in the mother. She was afraid it might be pneumonia and knew her baby would need immediate treatment if it was, to keep the disease from becoming severe. The success of our work depends upon people becoming aware of health hazards and taking preventive measures when they see danger signs. I held another courtyard session on nutrition. I told mothers what happens if a child is malnourished. The child will lag behind in every stage of life and will not be able to grow up to be a happy, productive adult. It is the parents’ responsibility to give the child proper nutrition so that he grows up healthy. The mothers seemed to understand my point and promised to take good care of their children. I spent another busy day inviting people to bring their children for Vitamin A when the government health assistant comes to give out capsules. I ensured 185 babies will get Vitamin A.
